INKBLOT #8

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  Information about determinants (the aspects of the inkblots that triggered the response, such as form and color) and location (which details of the inkblots triggered the response) is considered more important than content, although there is contrasting evidence.  In addition, "popularity" and "originality" of responses can be important in the analysis.
When I look at this I instantly see an MRI or a CAT scan of pelvic bones.  The middle white area is where the spinal cord would be.  I think one of the reasons I thought of this is because I am so used to looking at MRI/CAT scan pictures.  My senior year of high school I took Anatomy/Physiology.  We looked at numerous images and had to label them.  It was an honor elective, but I think it should have counted as an AP class; there was a crazy amount of work we had to do each day.  Besides all the work, it was my favorite class.  I thought it was amazing learning about the muscles, tissues, bones, and functions of each.  Throughout the course we had to create a book; each chapter of the book corresponded to what we were learning.  The book is pretty awesome; it has every bone, muscle, and definition I have learned.  I kept it because it would come in handy when I take Anatomy here.  Science is my favorite subject because there is always so much to learn.  I could not work in the science field, though, because blood is not really my thing, and research seems pretty boring. Well, I just wanted to share that with you.  What do you see when you look at this?  Do you see the same thing I do?  I guess this is my last blog so I hope you enjoyed! (:

INKBLOT #7

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  In 1921, Rorschach wrote his book Psychodiagnostik after studying 300 mental patients and 100 control subjects.  After experimenting with several hundred inkblots, he selected a set of ten for their diagnostic value.  He died the following year.  Rorschach had difficulty in publishing the book and it attracted little attention when it first appeared.
This one seems quite difficult to find one picture. In the middle I see a woman wearing some type of hat. She looks like she has wings; maybe she is an angel.  I also see a seahorse on either side of her, with their backs toward her. I cannot really think of anything that has to do with seahorses or an angel.  Wait!  I actually see Italy. It is in the white area on the left side of the "woman".  Italy is a place my family is familiar with; actually my family is from Sicily.  My father's side of the family comes from Palermo, and my mom's side is from Taormina (My mom's maiden name is actually Taormina).  We eat a lot of pasta and meatballs, and everyone is very loud.  My parents both come from pretty big families, but I do not really have too many cousins.  Also, they are all in their mid to late twenties, but we still get along well.  Some of them have actually played a big roll in my life.  Family is very important to us; family always comes first.  My grandparents go to Italy every other year, but many traditions have seemed to die down a little; it is kind of sad.  I would love to visit Italy someday.  I have heard only the best things about it from my grandparents which makes me that much more excited to go.  What is your background?  Do you practice any traditions from your heritage? Tell me about them! I would love to learn more about you.

INKBLOT #6

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  The French psychologist Alfred Binet experimented with inkblots as a creativity test.  After the turn of the century, psychological experiments used inkblots, with aims such as studying imagination and consciousness.
This picture looks like a character from a children’s cartoon-maybe Gumbi.  Remember all the cartoons we used to watch when we were younger?  They were great.  In my area, some of the popular ones were Hey Arnold, As Told by Ginger, Spongebob Squarepants, the Wild Thronberrys, Rugrats, Hey Arthur, and Rocketpower.  Why aren’t most of these shows on anymore?  They were all really interesting and always taught good moral lessons.  Nowadays, I feel like kids go from watching baby cartoons to watching “preteen” shows like Zoey 101. I would love to see some of the “old” shows on T.V. again.  Sometimes, my friends and I would talk about all these shows.  Its amazing to hear how much we actually remember about each one.  What shows did you watch when you were younger?  What do you remember most about them?

INKBLOT #5

Take a look at this picture for just a second.  Now, look at it again and think about what memories it brings up.  This is yet another picture in the Rorschach test.  It has been thought that the use of these inkblots have been inspired by the German doctor Justinus Kerner.  Justinus Kerner had published a popular book of poems, which was inspired by an accidental inkblot.  This particular inkblot instantly looks like an airplane to me.  I have ridden in an airplane many times in my life.  Most of my dad’s side of the family lives down near Boca Raton in Florida.  I don’t really like being on an airplane now.  My dad was always nervous when we would have to fly.  I remember always being at the airport exactly three hours before the plane took off.  I don’t know what he was thinking-maybe he thought we might miss the plane (we live about 45 minutes from the airport).  I hated when my ears popped when the plane landed; it hurt pretty badly.  When you get to where you are going, though, that is all you care about and barely even think about what happened on the plane.  We have not taken a plane to Florida in the past couple of years because it is cheaper to drive. Go figure!  Have you ever been on an airplane?  Tell me your experience!

INKBLOT #4

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  In the 1960s, the Rorschach was the most widely used projective test.  It was ranked eighth among psychological tests used in outpatient mental health facilities.  Also, it is the second most widely used test by members of the Society for Personality Assessment, and it is requested by psychiatrists in twenty-five percent of forensic assessment cases.  I do not really know what to make out of this inkblot.  The only thing I could say is that it looks like some scary creature.  Scary is a normal concept in our household (well around Halloween).  It is one of my dad’s favorite “holidays” because he loves seeing people scared.  Since I started trick-or-treating by myself my dad has done some sort of haunted setup at the house.  Nothing is ever repeated.  Each year one of his birthday gifts is a Halloween item so he can incorporate it into an idea for the coming Halloween.
Sometimes he puts some of the moving creatures in our house, and even in my room when I am sleeping.  You cannot imagine how many times I have cried because when I opened my eyes at night or turned the corner to go the bathroom a six foot monster was staring at me.  Our house is the neighborhood favorite on Halloween night.  My dad would pop out of coffins, jump out from under the table, and would even chase the older kids down the street.  When I was younger everybody would come to my house to see what my dad planned.  Two weeks before Halloween, people in school would ask me what my father was planning; I never had any idea because he always kept it a secret!  Hmmm...thats all I have for now, but I want to ask: did you ever have a scary house in your neighborhood?  Do you ever wish Halloween was more about being scared rather than just going door to door getting candy?  Tell me your Halloween experience!

INKBLOT #3

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  The Rorschach test has been used to detect an underlying thought disorder especially in cases where patients are not willing to describe their thoughts openly.  I think this image is pretty easy to pick out.  I would be surprised if many people do not see what I see.  Do you see two poodles?  They are facing each other and look like they are kissing.
Oh dogs! Dogs really are man’s best friend.  When I was younger, maybe five years old, my parents took me and my sister to a pet adoption.  At first we did not know what we were doing; we just saw all these dogs and wanted to pet all of them.  After dad told us what was going on we picked out three really quickly.  Next, we brought them into a room with the four of us to see how the dogs reacted with each person.  Finally, we chose the white Bichon Frise; we named her Snow (how original right?).  She became a big part in our family, even when we got another dog.
Two years ago we went on vacation to see my family, and left Snow with my grandparents back at home.  We came home about a week later and Snow seemed fine.  The next day she could barely walk and was peeing on the floor.  This was not like her at all, she seemed okay the day before.  My mom took her to the vet and he said that her kidneys were failing, and she was in pain.
Basically, our only option was to put her down.  Two days before my birthday we said our last goodbyes and my mom brought her to the vet.  This was the first time I had ever seen my dad cry.  It was the most horrible thing I had ever seen; we all loved her so much.  This was one of the saddest days of my life.  Every once and a while we talk about her, but all wish she was still with us.  Have you ever lost a pet?  What was it like?

INKBLOT #2

Look at this picture for just a second.  What is your very first reaction?  Now take another look and think about what memories it brings up.  The test is named after its creator, a Swiss psychologist named Hermann Rorschach.  Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning.  When I look at this picture I see two dancers.  They are colored in gray ink. I am not the biggest fan of dancing; I am not that graceful.  I was in gymnastics since I was four, and of course, when I was ten I wanted to try dancing.  I was the kind of girl who liked to try everything; I participated in everything I could.  My mom thought I was crazy because she knew I was not a dancer.  I danced jazz at Studio 49.  At first I thought it was really fun.  We learned simple dance moves and turns.  As the weeks went on we learned more and more.  I started to get really bored; I was used to running around with a soccer ball or baseball.  My mom had always taught me to never quit, so that was not an option.  I could not wait for the recital in June so I could be done.  When that day finally came my mom made me tell the teacher I was not coming back.  I was angry because I wanted my mom to tell her; I thought my teacher was going to be mad.  The only thing she said to me was that I was a pleasure to have in her class.  I’m glad I tried to dance because it taught me a lot about myself.  It was a great learning experience.  Have you ever really wanted to try something and then ended up hating it?
